"God had it worked out for me, that I was on my way home" shares Steve those hours before his baby, Makena Grace was born and those very happy ones afterwards.

The Final Countdown

While driving home from the studio, Burton got a call from his wife Sheree who alerted him she was having contractions. "I'll stay on the phone with you the whole way home and we're going to time them" Burton calmly told his wife. When the contractions were five minutes apart for more than an hour, he knew the big moment was close at hand. "We called the doctor and he said "give it another two or three hours".  "I'm like, what? Sheree was in a lot of pain.  But when I got home, we ate dinner and sat there and timed the contractions. We had bags packed, and I started getting things ready. It wasn't like it is in the movies. Once that time came, we were prepared on what to do."

"The anxiety for me came from wondering when it was going to happen and where I was going to be. I was worried it was going to be during rush hour and my wife was going to have to drive herself to the hospital. But, the timing was perfect. It was weird driving to the hospital though. Every slow person in America was in front of me."

And Baby Makes Three

Burton was in the labor room with his wife the entire time. Along with them came along a Sade CD to make it as relaxing as possible. Yoga-like deep breathing was used to ease the pain. And the daddy-to-be?   "I had SPORTS CENTER on.  They said the baby isn't coming for at least another 12 hours. We're going to give your wife some drugs. There's a fold out chair and a TV'.  "I said, 'honey try to get some sleep if you can. I watched a little TV"

Then at 2:02, during the opening credits of General Hospital, Makena Grace was born. Burton cut the umbilical cord and held his daughter for the first time. "It was cool, man. I expected to get light headed during it and I really didn't. Obviously it was an emotional moment. I can't wait to get home." " Now, she sleeps on my chest."
