Sonny urges Jason to claim his son this week on General Hospital -- right before the infant goes missing.

"That's why Jason didn't tell Sonny the truth to begin with," asserts Steve Burton, referring to Sonny's insistence that Jason demand to be in Jake's life.  "Jason's determined to protect Jake, because he can't guarantee (the violence) won't touch him.  There's no way he can keep Jake 100 percent safe."

Jason's relationship with Sam is also in danger when Amelia reveals Sam's sordid past of conning men.  "Jason's first reaction is to defend Sam," insists Burton.  "But after looking at the file Amelia has on Sam and the facts, Jason is like, "Wow. This really is true."

Amelia then goes one step further by suggesting Jason might be one of Sam's marks.  "Jason doesn't believe that for a minute," scoffs Burton.  "Sam might have done these things to other men, but what she and Jason have, or had, is real."

Had may be the operative word, when Amelia drops one final bomb:  Sam learned weeks ago that Jason is the father of Liz's baby and has said nothing.  "There's the problem," points Burton.  "Sam knowing that Jake is Jason's son is more of a surprise to him than her past."

More shocking, Jake soon vanishes from the park.  Liz is playing with him.  "It's a horrible situation, because Jason is in jail," explains Burton.  "Jason can't do anything.  He's dying inside."

All signs point to Sam as the babynapper because she's at the park when the child goes missing.  It's almost too coincidental for Jason not to think, "What's going on?. Could Sam have something to do with this?" muses Burton.  "Jason can't help but have the thought go through his head."

But what is Sam thinking?
